In 2014, Lee and his friend, Galen Burke, attempted to hitchhike the Chinese portion of the Silk Road. Their project was funded by a grant from Outside Magazine. Lee kept the blog describing their escapades, while Galen documented it with his photography. The pair were briefly detained by the People’s Armed Police, witnessed a Tibetan god getting angry and almost walked into an assassination.
